Monster Cheese Balls

I saw these little monster cheese balls appetizer, and thought it would be such a cute thing to try for Halloween this year. Aren’t they adorable?

However, here’s how mine turned out:

Sigh. It reminded me of this cupcake fail:

That cracks me up every time I see it!

My food color pens just didn’t do the trick, so I used olives on the eyes instead, and cut up a jalapeno (from my garden!) for the mouths.

This was pretty messy, but not terribly difficult. Anna thought it was a BLAST to make these, so I’d consider doing it again just for that reason. I served them with pita chips – it’s a lot of cheese for one bite, so they’re really best served with something.

If you want to try these, the instructions are here. Instead of mixing bacon with cream cheese for the inside, I cheated and just used some jalapeno Alouette cheese spread.
