Rebuilding the Wardrobe

The only reason I’m not jumping up and down and screaming this from rooftops is it seems to good to be true, and I won’t really believe it’s happening until it does.

Remember at the beginning of summer, when Susan from Style for Hire came and helped me purge my wardrobe? I’ve resisted buying anything new until I could go shopping with Susan and really find out what I need for my wardrobe that works for my body and style.

In the meantime, however, I feel like I’ve lost all my creative flair and fashion confidence. I used to enjoy the creative expression of putting outfits and accessories together, but with 1/5 of the clothes I used to have GONE, I’m just a bit limited. And I wonder if I really ever knew what I was doing in the first place, you know? So it is with great pleasure that I announce…

WE’RE GOING SHOPPING! On Friday! Saks Off 5th Avenue is hosting us, and KOIN Local 6 will be filming it for a new regular fashion segment they’ll be producing. Susan will help me choose items to round out my wardrobe based on my body type and personal style.

Oh yes, personal style. What is that, anyway?

I really want to figure that out.

Every day, I want to look:

1. Age-appropriate

2. Fashionable

3. Slender

4. professional (on work days)

Most days, I think I can hit 2 out of 4. Professional is not hard, but professional + age-appropriate + fashionable is difficult. On weekends, or when I’m out with the family, the last thing I want to look is professional, you know? I want to look fashionable + young! Slender is a given goal all the time,  BTW. I don’t know if I’ll ever be over that. I’m hoping Susan can help me figure out to hit at least 3 out of 4, if not all 4.

I don’t currently own any denim, because my True Religion jeans were too blingy-butt and they all got purged. On weekends, I’ve been wearing a uniform of black leggings, a navy tunic with either a lot of jewelry or a scarf, and tan knee-high Earth Footwear boots. Seriously, nearly every day that I’m not at work, that’s what I’m wearing. And sometimes, I’ve even worn that to work (sorry, Susan).

I don’t know what we’re going to find on Friday, but I know I need some structured jackets, brightly-colored layering shells, and some great denim. It’s the classic #MomStyle dilemma I’m always going on about: finding the right style that lies somewhere in between workout and work wear.

I’m so grateful to Style for Hire, Portland Family, and Saks for giving me this opportunity. Wish me luck on Friday!

I was generously offered this opportunity through Portland Family’s “Empowering Self & Style” journey. All opinions are my own.
