Cruise Fashion

My mom and I just got back from a wonderful Caribbean Cruise aboard the Ruby Princess. One of the most fun elements of the cruise was planning our outfits! We packed way too much, but not being experienced cruisers, we weren’t quite sure what we would want to wear. We pretty much wore sundresses the whole time!

hats and sundresses were our favored attire.

A light-weight sun dress makes the perfect swimsuit cover up for when it’s time to eat or walk about the ship.

No hat is too big

Swimsuit cover-up dress, big hat. Check. Having lunch on the aft deck.

Princess Cruises makes it really clear that bathing suits are really suitable for the swimming areas and sun decks only, not in the restaurants. It doesn’t appear that this policy was ever enforced, but we wouldn’t dream of walking around in just a bathing suit anyway! Not when there are cute sun dresses to throw on over them.

matching "beach runner"

We wore these “aqua shoes” or beach runners just about everywhere, especially on the shore excursions.

Swimsuits, sundress cover-ups, sunglasses, hats. Pretty much our uniforms on the cruise.

"formal" wear on the cruise ship

We went “cocktail” for the formal night, with knee-length sheaths. blurry picture!

White floaty sun dress

I can’t tell you how much I love this dress. It’s voluminous, and a bit see-through. It’s great as a swimsuit cover-up, but I kind of wish I could wear it all the time.

Sunset & beyond uniform: linen pants. What you can’t see: floaty tunic, sweater & shawl. Perfect for a glass of wine at sunset and movies under the stars.

I bought the beach runner shoes on Amazon:

as well as my favorite floaty white dress (shown here in coral):

Next time, I’ll pack half as much! I will say, though, that we could have been dressier for the formal night. We fit in just fine, but it was an opportunity to dress to the nines and I hate missing an opportunity like that.  I’ll know better for next time!
