Mophie Battery Pack is a Game-Changer

If a kid does something adorable and you don’t get a picture to share on three social media sites simultaneously, did it really happen?* As a “social media mom,” I’ve been battling a dying phone battery for years. I would carry my charger with me everywhere, plugging in at every opportunity. It was especially nutty traveling with other bloggers – we’d race each other for plug-ins and negotiate sharing.

Everyone I know who has an iPhone complains that the iPhone battery just doesn’t last long enough, but other than closing all the apps that I wasn’t using, I didn’t know how to extend the life of my battery. And who wants to miss out on taking that perfect picture of your kids doing that perfectly adorable thing? And then not getting to post it to Instagram? Are you kidding me? I’m making fun of myself, of course, but still – it was an issue.

portable charger will juice up anything that uses a USB cable

Finally, on my way to Disneyland last fall, I bought a power tube at Brookstone in the airport. It cost $50, but I figured it was worth it to not be worried about my iPhone battery at Disneyland. When you only have one day in Disneyland, you don’t want to spend ANY of that time tied to a plug-in. The tube is great – and you can charge anything that has a USB port, so both Brian and I – or anyone I’m with – can use it. And it’s great for providing extra life for the iPad on flights.  It’s a little annoying to have to be connected via cord to it when using your phone, but it’s not bad.

Then for Christmas, Brian bought me the Mophie.

At first, I thought it was a waste of money. After all, I had my cute red nugget tube!

And, I wasn’t thrilled with the fact that it made my phone bigger. I liked my low-profile sparkly case.

I still love my low-profile sparkle case!

For a while, I kept the Mophie in my bag, and just attached it when I started running low on battery.

But I used the Mophie all day when I knew I had a long day ahead of me, and I was SOLD. Usually, if I didn’t plug my phone in to my desk, I’d be out of battery by mid-afternoon. And that’s not even a heavy social media day – that is just a normal work day. With the Mophie, I don’t have to plug in all day, and I’m still at 100% in the early evening.

It’s so liberating to not be tied to a plug all day, or worried about where to find my next plug! This has been a serious game-changer for me. Now I use it almost all the time. And I like it for running, because even though it’s bigger, I feel like it’s protecting my phone in case I drop it.

Here are the details on the Mophie, if you are interested, along with my COMMENTS:

  • Rechargeable 1700mAh lithium ion polymer battery and protective case in one.
  • Provides twice the battery life of the iPhone 5. AT LEAST TWICE AS MUCH!
  • Soft touch finish, Sleek poly carbonate ABS materials in a sleek soft touch design. IT’S SLEEKLY SHAPED, BUT STILL KIND OF BULKY BECAUSE OF THE SIZE. ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, IT MAKES IT EASIER TO FIND IN THE BOTTOM OF MY BAG.
  • Quick 1 amp recharging speed. IT DOES CHARGE REALLY FAST, BUT I JUST PLUG IT IN EVERY NIGHT THEN I DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT ALL DAY.
  • 4LED Light Status Indicator. THIS IS HELPFUL TO SEE HOW FULL THE CHARGE IS.
  • Acoustic Sound Enhancement. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN THE SOUND QUALITY THAT I CAN DETECT BETWEEN USING THE MOPHIE AND NOT – SO IT MUST WORK!

I think Mophie makes chargers for other phones, as well. I highly recommend it!

*of course it did – I was being facetious.
