Family Fun In Stevenson, WA

We like meeting Dayl and Zephyr in Stevenson, because it is pretty much halfway between Portland and Underwood, where they live.
Before we had kids, Dayl and I used to meet at Skamania Lodge to visit the spa and catch up. Now that we have the kiddos, we are discovering all the fun to be had there and in the little town of Stevenson.
The Lodge itself is “Woodland Wonderful.” Big wooden beams, cozy fires, sylvan decor and giant windows looking out over the Gorge facing east.

We spent a lot of time at Skamania in the pool. For my kids, hotels are all about the pools. The pool here is so beautiful, surrounded by big windows showing views of nature.
We dragged them away from movies in the room and the swimming pool long enough to roast marshmallows at the big fire pit. I love that the folks at Skamania Lodge are committed to the fire, even in the rain!
During the movie, we brought in pizza from Andrew’s in Stevenson. It was SO GOOD, and only 5 minutes from the lodge.
After check out, we spent the day playing in the Gorge. We had a great lunch at our go-to Stevenson restaurant, Big River Grill, then played at the park.

Rock Creek Park is just lovely. There’s a great play structure, and dynamic views of the gorge. If it were summer, we would have been swimming at Bob’s Beach, but in the heart of January, we stuck to the park.

Finally, we crossed the Bridge of the Gods to get ice cream at Eastwind, and walked to the park in Cascade Locks.
